FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)
The FOIA allows you to obtain information from various agencies of the federal government, including the Department of Energy (DOE), Strategic Petroleum Reserve Project Management Office (SPRPMO). Requests are governed by the provisions of the FOIA, set forth in 5 U.S.C. 552, and in the Department's regulations implementing the Act, set forth in 10 CFR 1004
| SUBMITTING YOUR REQUEST | RESPONSE TIMES |

Before making a request under the FOIA, make sure the information you seek is not already public. If the information you are seeking is not already publicly available, submit your request to Deanna Harvey, FOIA Officer, 900 Commerce Road East, New Orleans, LA 70123. The following recommended steps helps to expedite the processing of your request: 1-include FOIA REQUEST on envelope; 2-be as specific as possible in identifying the records you are seeking; 3-include a brief description as to why you need the records, since the DOE may use such information as classification for fee assessment.
All federal agencies are required to respond to a FOIA request within 20 business days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays. This period does not begin until the request is actually received by the FOIA office of the component that maintains the records sought. An agency is not required to send out the releasable documents by the last business day; it can send you a letter informing you of its decision and then send out the documents within a reasonable time afterward.
DOE makes certain records available for public inspection. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve Public Reading Room is located in the Technical Data Center- Room 151, 850 South Clearview Parkway, New Orleans, LA.
SEARCH, REVIEW AND COPY CHARGES
Guidelines for assessing fees on searching, reviewing and copying documents in response to a FOIA request are addressed in Title 10 US Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1004.9, Fees for providing records.
